My Montessori Journey

My Montessori Journey
Greetings!  Welcome to “At Home Montessori”.  My Blog has been a silent prayer of mine for the last four years.  I have been blessed with being a stay-at-home mom while attending school at night to obtain my American Montessori Society teacher training certification in Pre-Primary (ages 3-6).  I always knew in my heart that if I was given the opportunity to become a mother, then my children would be naturally educated using Maria Montessori’s methods.  Luckily, I married a man who knew nothing of Montessori, but happened to do everything Montessorian in his parenting!
As life continued and my children grew I was offered a Lead Teacher position in a lovely Montessori school located blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.  How wonderful to be able to take my children with me to “work”!  I particularly love that now I have an additional 19 children in my life whom refer to each other as “friends”.
Going to a career each day has provided my life with joy!  Yet, I deeply miss all of my stay-at-home mommy friends.  Those women were my sisters who helped me to raise my children in a community.  We all innately believed in fostering self-esteem, confidence and independence in our children.  Our ideal for a school was one that created a world peace community.  This group of women was unique because they believed in a world that lives in peace and harmony, a world based on interdependence and respect for all life and for all people.
The problem was that not all of my mommy friends could afford Private Montessori education.  This is why my Blog has been born!  I wanted to communicate with my mommy friends how they too could live out the Montessori philosophy while continuing to stay-at-home with their children.  “At Home Montessori” is the ideal name for this Blog.
I’d love to get to know you! Please leave a comment and let me know what brought you by today. Are you a parent looking to learn more about what your child’s “sensitive period” is?  Are you seeking the Montessori philosophy? Or maybe you are hoping to find new ways to implement Maria Montessori in your homeschooling? Whatever it is, I am blessed you dropped by!

  1. Shelley! How fabulous! My 5 yr old goes to Montessori, but my husband feels it is important to go to public school too, so after next year she will make the switch. Her "casa" has been so wonderful and nurturing, I hope she is able to carry the skills she has learned with her on her journey. So excited to see what's next!

  2. Shelley-
This is such a great idea! Although I am oh so lucky to have you as my soon to be sister in law, as you know I am in Minnesota and you Florida. This is the Perfect way I can learn about your practices for my own children if I am so lucky to be blessed with them someday. I want to start learning NOW and this is a great way to do so! Thanks from minnesota.

  3. Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the blogworld. I just discovered the Montessori Method just over a year,I was instantly drawn to it. I am a licensed child care provider operating in my home. I am trying to implement the method the best way I can, in search of creating a prepared enviroment that helps the children grow to their fullest potential. I am following you because I know I can learn a lot from your blog. Thank you again for sharing.
