Beautiful Quote of the Day!

"That humanity which is revealed in all its intellectual splendor during the sweet and tender age of childhood should be respected with a kind of religious veneration. It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open himself up to life."

My Montessori Quote of the Day!

"A man has substituted himself for God, desiring to form the minds of children in his own image and likeness; and this cannot be done without subjecting a free creature to torture." -- Maria Montessori

My Montessori Philosophy...

Young children learn best when they inspire an inner passion for excellence, for the individual and community.  The role of the directress (teacher) is to develop a love of learning in the students.  A supportive learning environment for young children is to continuously nurture the curiosity, creativity, and imagination born within us all.  It is to awaken and nurture the human spirit of every student by my very example and to help students realize and develop their tremendous unlimited potential.

My Montessori Journey

My Montessori Journey
Greetings!  Welcome to “At Home Montessori”.  My Blog has been a silent prayer of mine for the last four years.  I have been blessed with being a stay-at-home mom while attending school at night to obtain my American Montessori Society teacher training certification in Pre-Primary (ages 3-6).  I always knew in my heart that if I was given the opportunity to become a mother, then my children would be naturally educated using Maria Montessori’s methods.  Luckily, I married a man who knew nothing of Montessori, but happened to do everything Montessorian in his parenting!
As life continued and my children grew I was offered a Lead Teacher position in a lovely Montessori school located blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.  How wonderful to be able to take my children with me to “work”!  I particularly love that now I have an additional 19 children in my life whom refer to each other as “friends”.
Going to a career each day has provided my life with joy!  Yet, I deeply miss all of my stay-at-home mommy friends.  Those women were my sisters who helped me to raise my children in a community.  We all innately believed in fostering self-esteem, confidence and independence in our children.  Our ideal for a school was one that created a world peace community.  This group of women was unique because they believed in a world that lives in peace and harmony, a world based on interdependence and respect for all life and for all people.
The problem was that not all of my mommy friends could afford Private Montessori education.  This is why my Blog has been born!  I wanted to communicate with my mommy friends how they too could live out the Montessori philosophy while continuing to stay-at-home with their children.  “At Home Montessori” is the ideal name for this Blog.
I’d love to get to know you! Please leave a comment and let me know what brought you by today. Are you a parent looking to learn more about what your child’s “sensitive period” is?  Are you seeking the Montessori philosophy? Or maybe you are hoping to find new ways to implement Maria Montessori in your homeschooling? Whatever it is, I am blessed you dropped by!
